Hi, nerds. I’ve been playing Rogue since the 80s on big floppy disks at my friend’s house. I actually won it once in the year 2000 on MS Dos, since I could easily save and restart games making different decisions / identifying items, but I consider that win a cheat. My advice to make it to the lowest levels (in the 20s, as 26 is the final level, where you find the Amulet of Yendor and start being able to climb upward), is to use a ring of stealth so most of the hard monsters (Griffins, Dragons, Jabberwocks, Medusas…) stay sleeping when you enter rooms, and go straight down the stairs as soon as you find them after, say level 15. The “scare monsters” scroll (maniacal laughter) is to be dropped when you’re trapped by monsters, and just stay standing on it so you can hit them without getting hit. With a full inventory, you can go back and step on it again for reuse, but you can never pick it up again… it turns to dust. I still haven’t figured out how to use the “hold monsters” scroll, but the “drain life” staff is pretty strong, as it drains life from all monsters in the room, I think, but also yours, so your HP need to be maxed. Good luck, adventurers.

Just to let you know, if you set emulation to DOSBoxX, then you will be able to quick save and quick reload the game. This can help you to finish the game)
